FINAL REPORT

The following report analyzes the redesign of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals' mechanical systems. The lab space as well as the office space have been analyzed separately to ensure a redesign that is feasible, suitable, and efficient for both spaces. The lab space will replace 24 ducted fume hoods with 12 recirculating ductless fume hoods, while the office space will implement a chilled beam system as opposed to just VAV terminal unit boxes. These alternatives are analyzed for their savings on energy use, efficiency, emission reduction, and cost.

Two smaller studies were also analyzed. A construction management breadth study was done to see the savings on equipment first cost, as well as material savings. An electrical panel distribution breadth study was also done to ensure the newly resized air handling units were able to be relocated to the dedicated mechanical penthouse.
